Avoiding the Trap of Deception

I do not sit with the deceitful, nor do I associate with hypocrites. Psalm 26:4

There is a difference between being a friend of sinners and receiving counsel from them. David says he does not sit with the deceitful which means he does not go to them to obtain direction for his life. He does not associate with those who live a life of duplicity for he realizes how difficult it is to open himself up to deception for advice. The enemy used dishonesty in the beginning and continues to use lies and deceit to draw us in still today. David knew better than to sit with those who are under the influence of deception because he knew the impact it could have.

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” I Corinthians 15:33

To be careful and to take heed of the company we keep is wise. If we think we will not be influenced and let down our guard, we are walking dangerously. We should go into hiding to avoid corrupt company but this does not mean we go into physical hiding, but it means we stay clear of the trap of being led away. This does mean we remain in the truth of the Word of God, no matter where we are, hiding in His word. This does mean we remain true to who God has already said we are before entering the world.

We can keep ourselves clear of sitting with deception by staying in the truth. When we hear something contrary to God’s word, we do not sit with it in our mind or heart but dismiss it right away. When the voice of God becomes the loudest voice, we can sense deception and the error in our ways. It is the truth which sets us free, so when we are entertaining deception and lies, we are opening ourselves up to be led away.

Today in the Workplace

Where do you go for advice?

You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!  Psalm 22:23

There are many things in this world we can admire. There are many famous people we may stargaze over because of all the abilities they have been given. We may soon be finding ourselves praising them and honoring them to the place they get all of our attention. We see them behind the TV screen which grasps a lot of our daily attention. We would instead praise the celebrity or athlete behind the screen than the One who is truly worthy.

Making A Declaration

I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly I will praise you. Psalm 22:22

We make so many declarations that we may not even realize the number we make on a day to day basis. We may be guilty of pronouncing our name over our day. We may begin our day in a rush, may check our phone a couple of times, look at emails, Facebook, LinkedIn or the numerous other ways of being noticed. We may not even have a thought of what God has in mind for the day. We proclaimed this day as ours, and we will do our daily routine trying to find success in all we encounter.
