What I Have Done!
Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path. Psalm 44:18

The writer continues to bring to God all they have done to earn His favor. Even their heart and feet stayed on the path with Him. The Psalmist is fighting for the release of the Israelites and desperately needed God to intervene.

However, who is to say God doesn’t have them right where he wants them.  The writer recognizes God may have them where he wants them but is having a difficult time knowing why. Don’t the Israelites, and we deserve better than the trials of life.  This question goes through our mind and begins to separate us from God instead of drawing us near.

It is difficult to understand why people who are following God have to endure the hardships. The life of Jesus shows us the most exceptional example: He was without sin and yet despised and rejected by many. Jesus walked and carried a cross He didn’t deserve, and the outcome of the cross is something we daily walk in. We don’t deserve the grace of the cross, but God demonstrated His love for us in the cross. We still have to walk through life with hardships, but now we have the promise of His continual presence and prayer.  It isn’t what we have done that deserves God’s favor but what Jesus has already done.  What we really need is the grace to carry the cross we are called to bear.

Today in the Workplace

God doesn’t owe us anything. But he will give us Himself, is that enough?
