I have become a sign to many; you are my strong refuge. Psalm 71:7
We all carry a sign around with us— what is it saying? What are we saying about our lives by the way we live? What is the foundation of our trust in life—you know the source we are basing our life on. We may not stop and think about it often, but we are holding a sign. How do people recognize what we believe?
For the Psalmist, His sign was God. He led His life by God being His refuge. He trusted God, and as a result, others knew the sign the Psalmist was carrying. People who knew him knew that God was his source of constant need and refuge. He wasn't relying on a world that functions as it should. The author wasn't depending on relationships being as they should. He operated because God is working.
What about us? Do people know more what we are against more than what we are for? Can they tell by the way we do life that God is our refuge and strength? Today, we can make God the sign we carry, revealing to others that we are weak, but He is our strength. Show more about who God is than being noticed for who we are. Allow God to be revealed through you. Holding up our sign of faith means we often have to lay down our pride.
